A Guide to Publishing

​Publishing at Lahti University of Applied Sciences (Lahti UAS) aims to improve and enhance knowledge sharing in multi-disciplinary research and development as well as innovation.

This guide is aimed at everyone who is interested in Lahti UAS publishing and publications, especially at those interested in writing for a Lahti UAS publication. In this guide you will also find more information about open science and research, how to evaluate scholarly publications, and how to promote your research.

Openness is one of the key principles of research, development and innovation activities of Lahti UAS. Publishing is part of Lahti UAS teaching and RDI activities, and it aims to improve and enhance open knowledge sharing. Lahti UAS is strongly committed to the principles of Open Science in all areas of its RDI activites, including publishing. All our publications are open access and free for anyone to read.

LAMK publications


Lahti UAS publications series

Since 2015 Lahti UAS publishes in one publication series. All publications in the series are open access and available online in Theseus.

Online publications 

LAMKpub is an open access publishing platform which publishes articles and audiovisual materials by the staff, students and partners of the Lahti University of Applied Sciences. LAMKpub is completely open access, so all publications are free and available to anyone.The platform hosts two individual journals, LAMK Pro and LAMK RDI Journal, which are published continuously. Both journals accept and publish articles also in English.

LAMK Pro publishes articles directed at both the general and professional audiences. The articles are based on the author’s expertise and work conducted at Lahti UAS and can include project updates, views on recent developments in teaching or discussion on current topics.

LAMK RDI Journal publishes articles presenting the results of Lahti UAS RDI activities, such as workplace development projects or projects conducted as part of a student’s Master’s degree. The articles are based on the author’s expertise and work conducted at Lahti UAS.

Previous publications

Lahti University of Applied Sciences' previous online publications were Bay City News and Verkkolehti Lahtinen. Both reported on the research and development activities at Lahti University of Applied Sciences focusing on education, research and development activities in the fields of design, environment, well-being and smart industry. The contents of both journals remain open and free to read despite of no longer being published.

Why publish?

  • Research and publishing are part of Lahti UAS teaching and RDI activities. 
  • Publications offer an excellent way for staff to highlight their knowledge and expertise, and they are a merit to their author. 
  • Distinguished publications are a demonstration of high quality RDI activities.
  • Publications also help to build the Lahti UAS brand further, and with marketing and communications.   
  • Publications, creative expressions, audiovisual materials and software finance 2% of the RDI activities.

Publishing Activities Development Plan for 2018

Publishing activities are developed in accordance with LAMK's strategy. Publishing is an essential part of promoting and adding visibility to LAMK's focus area oriented RDI and regional development activities. Publishing activities are developed with an emphasis on openess, multidisciplinarity, know-how, networking, co-operation and internationality.

The  2018 development plan focuses mainly on further promoting open access publishing, establishing the use of interaction plans in project planning, increasing the efficiency of open RDI communication and strengthening the overall competence in all areas of publishing activities in LAMK.

The goal for 2018 is a total of 420 new publications. Our aim is that 98% of these are published or otherwise made available open access.
